I am a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow. Alongside a busy clinical practice, I am involved in supervising research fellows and contributing to journal editorial work, with a particular interest in supporting early-career researchers who are developing academic skills alongside clinical training.
I have trained and worked in Japan, South Africa, Denmark, and the United Kingdom, which has shaped both my clinical practice and my approach to academic collaboration. My clinical subspecialty interests include pelvic floor disorders, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and emergency general surgery. In addition to research activity, I am committed to surgical skills training in daily practice and to supporting trainees in developing safe and effective operative techniques.
Previously, I served as Associate Editor of Colorectal Disease (2020–2025), and I currently hold editorial roles as Guideline Editor for the United European Gastroenterology Journal and Clinical Editor for BMJ Surgery.
My talks at this meeting are “Publishing Your Results” and “Collaborative Projects” (30 minutes each). These sessions will focus on practical aspects of turning clinical and audit work into publishable outputs, and on how to engage with and contribute to collaborative research, particularly for clinicians at an early stage of their research careers.
